Glory With Christ

Romans 8:12-25

We share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. Romans 8:17

—

In a world of fast food, live communication, instant messaging, and immediate gratification, it can be hard to think about future blessing. Our world today is often unwilling to wait for anything, much less a revelation of divine glory. But there is a living hope for all who await the glory that will be revealed at the return of Christ.

God does not measure time from our perspective. God works methodically through history to bring about his plan and his purpose--in his time. Often working through centuries rather than moments, God shapes and molds the future. The present groans of creation are the birth pangs of new life. That new life is nothing less than redemption accomplished and all of creation restored.

People who share in communion with Christ are those who know the joy of this living hope. Followers of Christ know that even though the kingdom of God has not yet fully come, that day will arrive, and they will be part of a glorious future. Until then, they have been given the firstfruits of the Spirit to walk them through times of sorrow and pain. Even when they don't know what to pray or their prayers seem to go unheard, they know the Spirit himself will intercede for them. There is no greater comfort than knowing we belong both in life and in death to our faithful Savior Jesus Christ.

The glory of Christ awaits the day of his return.

Lord, in a world of the instant, give us patience to wait for you. Grant us endurance as we await the fullness of your glory. May your kingdom come. Amen.
