Who Are Jesus' Brothers and Sisters? (6)

Isaiah 58:6-11

"Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me." Matthew 25:40

—

Lately we've been reflecting on knowing God and how we can know God better. We've also been focusing on our Lord's call to help others for his sake. Our care and concern for needy and oppressed people is actually proof that we know and love God. And one of the best ways to know God better is by helping Jesus' brothers and sisters in their need.

Have you ever volunteered in a ministry for helping people in need? Maybe you've visited an elderly person in a nursing home or a patient in a hospital. Maybe you've helped out in a soup kitchen or shelter for homeless people. Maybe you've written letters to a prisoner or visited inmates inside a prison. How did that make you feel about your relationship with God?

In my work with Crossroad Bible Institute, I travel a lot, preaching and teaching in various churches. I can't tell you how many times CBI instructors have come up to me and said, "Sometimes I think I'm getting more blessed than the inmates; it's such a blessing to disciple these men and women."

Why is it such a blessing? Well, Jesus says that whatever we do for his brothers and sisters in need, we do it for him. So it should be no surprise that we are blessed by helping others, because when we come into contact with Jesus, we are bound to be blessed!

Thank you, Lord, for the privilege of meeting you in people who are in need. May we grow in knowing you as we reach out to help. Guide us in your love and grace. Amen.
