Watch and Be Amazed!

Habakkuk 1:1-5

"I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." Hab. 1:5

—

As the saying goes, we can sometimes "miss the forest for the trees"--or lose track of the main point by focusing on some of the details.

When Habakkuk looked at the situation of his day, he saw injustice and violence. He became convinced that "justice never prevails." It seemed as if God's purpose for his people had fizzled out.

We might wonder the same thing at times today. When we see environmental destruction, poverty, and terrorism, we might wonder, "God, are you doing anything?"

There's a time for action, but the Lord also calls us to periods of holy inaction. Such stillness often helps us see the bigger story God is writing.

The Lord also tells us to watch and be amazed: "I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told."

So we must watch with faith, trusting that God is at work. With eyes of faith we can look for justice, repentance, and God's kingdom in current events.

Then we might notice the silent explosion of the Chinese church to 20 or 30 million believers in the past 50 years. Or we might be amazed to see a booming house church movement in India--and so much more!

What might God be doing in your own community? Watch and be amazed today!

Lord, we have heard of your fame; we stand in awe of your amazing deeds. "Renew them in our day, in our time make them known" (Habakkuk 3:2). For the sake of Jesus, Amen.
