The Source of Wisdom
Scripture Reading — Genesis 41:1-40
"Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you." Genesis 41:39 —
The journey from slavery to the Pharaoh's palace was on a broken road. When would the broken road be made whole?
A troubled night with a disturbing dream led to one more moment for God to show that he was still with Joseph. God was still speaking with Joseph, who kept listening carefully.
In our passage for today many words are spoken. The sharing of Pharaoh's dream begins a search for an interpreter. A cupbearer remembers another dream and finally tells his story, which brings Joseph up from the darkness of the dungeon.
Into this atmosphere of confusion Joseph brings a word from the Lord. Words without a foundation are just words. Words with a foundation bring insight. Clarity comes from the mouth of one who recognizes he is a mouthpiece for the Lord.
While the spotlight turns to Joseph, Joseph turns the spotlight on God. Joseph understands that he can either be in the darkness or reflect the glory of God. The Pharaoh sees clearly that Joseph has a close relationship with God and deep wisdom from God.
Today, someone may learn about God from you or me. May our testimony be clear. May we point them to the One who is discerning and wise.
God of wisdom, forgive us for turning the spotlight on ourselves. Make us wise so that we may be your witnesses. May our words and actions point people to you. In Jesus, Amen.
