Scripture Reading — 1 Peter 1:13-25
You know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed … but with the precious blood of Christ …
—1 Peter 1:18-19 —
My father was an industrious farmer who loved to buy things and sell them for a profit. His nickname was “Smiley,” which was good for business as he brought cheer to the places he visited. In 2005 he was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, he commented to me, “The things that used to be important are not as important anymore.” Then he added, “Your goal to save souls is a good thing.”
Soul-winning is about bringing people to meet Jesus, who gives us access to the presence of Almighty God. It’s about helping people move out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. It’s about bringing life where there was death. This is possible only because of Jesus’ gift of his life for us on the cross. Heaven now connects with earth because of the cross.
Peter captured this well when he said, “You know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
Jesus’ precious blood transforms lives because it paid the debt of our sin. What a joy to be witnesses to others, sharing the good news of our great Savior!
Lord Jesus, thank you for being the perfect Lamb of God, who takes away our sin. May we spread your good news faithfully. We pray in your name. Amen.
