Recognizing God and His Word
Scripture Reading — Psalm 2
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. — Genesis 1:1
In the words of Genesis 1:1, the first sentence in the Bible, God explains that he is the creator of our universe and everything in it.
That declaration is often under attack, however. Some people suggest that the universe happened entirely by chance, but that’s not a logical conclusion. How does something come from nothing? And consider all the complexity of the amazing systems operating so beautifully—from way out in space to within the cells of the human body, and even deeper into the molecules they are made of. Creation is not an accident. God designed the universe and created us with purpose.
Attacking God’s reign is nothing new. The psalmist observed it in his day: “Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord . . . .”
Is God shaken because of attacks against him and his Word? No. “The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. He rebukes them in his anger.” Heaven has a response to what we believe.
The psalmist advises, “Be warned, you rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.”
Are you serving the Creator God today?
Father, thank you for creating us. Though we may have many questions, guide us to trust you and your Word to be a light to our path. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
