Scripture Reading — Acts 1:1-11
“You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Our world is in chaos. Wars and uprisings continue to plague many countries, with many lives needlessly lost. Famine causes hunger and starvation that affect entire communities. Crime and violence touch many areas, holding men, women, and children in fear.
How does God equip his disciples to be witnesses in such a dark and violent world? He does this by the power of the Holy Spirit, sent to Jesus’ followers after his ascension into heaven. And it was all made possible through Jesus’ death for us on the cross. God’s love brought Jesus to the cross and raised him from the dead, and that power of God is now at work in us through the Spirit.
The apostle Paul came to know this truth very well. He wrote a beautiful blessing to the church in Ephesus: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21).
The key is to let the power of Christ flow through our lives. This requires complete surrender to God so that God can unleash his power into our broken, hurting, chaotic world.
Can you be that channel? With his Spirit working in you, Christ can do immeasurably more than all you ask or imagine!
Lord Jesus, may your kingdom come and your will be done here as it is in heaven. Fill us and work through us, Lord, to heal this hurting world. In your name. Amen.
