Share the Bible's Truth
Scripture Reading — 2 Timothy 4:1-5
Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage— … do the work of an evangelist…
—2 Timothy 4:2, 5 —
In November 2013, Billy Graham invited Christians to join his final life crusade called “My Hope.” Now over 95 years old, he has proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ as an evangelist for 60 years. His crusades have reached people packed in stadiums and auditoriums and have been broadcast over radio and TV. It has been estimated that over 200 million people in 185 nations have heard him invite listeners to believe in God’s only Savior.
Each week in my local newspaper I read Billy Graham’s column called “My Answer,” in which he responds to questions from seekers, skeptics, and nonbelievers. He answers their inquiries honestly, respectfully, and biblically, always quoting relevant verses from God’s Word.
Dr. Graham does not hesitate to use the Bible to proclaim truth to people who don’t believe the Bible is true. That’s because the Word of God has divine power to break through the foolishness of people’s ideas and reveal the wisdom of God in Christ.
We also should not be reluctant or embarrassed to use the Bible when sharing the good news of Jesus with others. “The word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword … it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).
Lord, “Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end” (Psalm 119:111-112). Amen.
