Embracing Life Changes
Our July theme for the Today devotions, written by Rev. Jimmy Lin, will be “Embracing Life Changes.”
You may have seen the television commercial (I believe it’s for insurance) in which a young man tells his friends, “I’m never getting married!” But then he does. Then he says, “We’re never having children!” “We’re never moving to the suburbs!” “We’ll never own a mini-van!” “We’re never having another child!” Each time his “never” changes into a reality in his life. The last scene of the commercial shows him, his wife, and two children snuggled together on the couch—and he’s perfectly content.
That’s life—constant change. My wife Deb and I have experienced our own changes as we’ve relocated many times with job changes, as our family has grown and now is virtually out of the house, and as recent eye surgery has made me slow down and ask for help for a time. Every change is a challenge in some way, and with each change it’s comforting to know that God is in control of our lives.
My friend Rev. Jimmy Lin retired in 2015. He served as the Chinese Ministry Leader with Back to God Ministries International, the parent organization of ReFrame Media and this Today devotional. He served in that capacity for 25 years, but was born and raised in Hong Kong. So he’s well positioned to write these devotions on transitions in our lives. He and his wife Doris currently live in a southwest suburb of Chicago.
If you want to hear more of Rev. Lin’s thoughts on these devotions, you can listen or read this interview:
May you be refreshed, refocused, and renewed in God’s Word this month!
